People all over the world use bank cards to help them get the things they need to achieve their goals. Credit cards can make life easier and provide a sense of freedom in the financial realm. However, it is vital that one looks into all their options and does their homework before opening any credit card accounts. The article below covers some of the basic credit information to help consumers achieve that balance.

Do not lend out charge cards under any circumstance. You may trust your friend, but it can cause problems. It is never a good idea to let friends use your card. They may make too many charges or go over whatever limit you set for them.

If you want to hang onto a credit card, make sure that you use it. Inactive accounts are usually closed by most creditors. The best way to ensure your account stays open for when you need it is to use a card occasionally. Remember to pay them off in full each month to avoid accumulating debt.

TIP! Fully pay off your monthly credit card charges when you receive the bill. Unless your credit card has 0 percent interest, every month that your card carries a balance, a finance charge is added.

All people with charge cards should get a copy of their credit report at no cost each year and look to see that everything is right. Compare the information on the report with your credit card statements and be certain they match.

Try to avoid credit card providers who charge an annual fee. Usually, no annual fees cards are offered to those with better credit scores. Fees can quickly eliminate the perks associated with any offers that accompany the card. Calculate it in your head. Annual fees are usually found finely written into the terms and conditions of the credit card, not in the promotional materials. Put your reading glasses on. Assess whether the card?s fees are a more substantial factor than the its possible benefits. Many times, they don?t.

TIP! Talk to the credit card company if you are having financial problems. Companies will sometimes set up payment plans for their customers.

Remember that you can always contact your credit card company directly and attempt to negotiate a new annual percentage rate if what you?re paying now is too high. A lot of times they will bring it down for you. This can wind up saving you a great deal of money, especially if you often carry a balance.

When closing card accounts, leave one open to help you build good credit. Try to make the one that you leave open the card with the longest history, as well as a strong payment record. Doing so helps show that you have handled one account well.

Do not charge everything on credit in an attempt to get points for rewards. If you want to accumulate airline points, you might rack up enough for a ticket if you make all your purchases on a single card. However, those tickets may end up costing you an a ghastly amount after racking up charges and interest rates.

TIP! Use your credit cards on a regular basis so that your accounts are not closed. If you do not use your card for a long period of time, the credit card company may close the account.

Always know the rate of interest on all your charge cards. This is very important: prior to singing up with a credit card company, be sure you know what rate you?re paying. If you aren?t aware of the rate, it could turn out to be much higher than you initially thought. If your interest rate is high, there is a good possibility that you won?t have enough money to pay your debt at the end of the month.

Always review the monthly statements for your credit card accounts. You need to do this regularly with each statement you receive. If you put this task off for weeks, you might not recall each and every transaction. Also, if you wait, you risk not fixing a problem if it currently exists.

Bank cards offer users financial flexibility and an ability to build a good credit history. When credit is used responsibly, it is great. However, poor credit habits have mired many consumers in ruin. This article has contained some valuable advice that can help any consumer to make educated credit card decisions that enhance their life and prevent credit pitfalls.

TIP! If you are looking for a secure card, try to stay away from a prepaid card. Prepaid cards are not credit cards at all, and they don?t report to any of the credit bureaus.

James:??????????????????James Schramko here with Internet Marketing Speed and my guest today is Brenton Ford, welcome Brenton.

Brenton:????????????? Thanks James thanks for having me on.

James:??????????????????It?s my pleasure. Now I?m interested in talking to you and I?m doing this beside my pool today and there?s a reason for that. It?s because of your business. You?re not in the typical internet marketing space. You?re in a different industry all together. Would you like to tell us a bit about what you?ve been doing online?

Brenton:????????????? Yeah, well last 3 ? 4 years I?ve built an online based business around swimming and teaching trackletes and swimmers how to swim faster. So it?s not your typical internet marketing, make more money online, type of business I guess.

James:??????????????????Right. You?ve been applying some of the things that we talk about on Internet Marketing Speed such as video marketing and podcasting and membership sites. Can you give us a little helicopter view of what your business looks like at the moment?

Brenton:????????????? Yeah well I started out with one product, one website and not much of an idea of what a business looked like. I had a website but it wasn?t a business. But meeting you a couple of years ago, you taught me how to build a business from my knowledge and what I knew so I?ve sort of built this thing out to encompass a lot of things but based around the?Own the Racecourse?thing that you?re teaching at the moment so I?ve got a number of different products. They?re digital products, they?re not DVDs, they?re not physical, they?re all digital download. I?ve got a membership site. I?ve got another recurring product as well. A lot of similar stuff to what you?re doing I guess. It?s just building up the whole business with an email list, a blog and doing weekly videos and having more than just a website I guess and having a proper business.

James:??????????????????Alright so with Own the Racecourse, you?ve referenced that as a course that I put out and you actually attended a workshop that we did where we stepped through how I was applying that to my business. Would you say that the strategy that I?ve deployed there with the news blogging is suitable to non-internet marketing industries?

Brenton:????????????? Yeah, absolutely. I?d say it works tremendously well in industries that aren?t internet marketing. What I started 3 or 4 months ago after I saw you doing it and you made a suggestion to try it was every week, on a Monday, I film a video where I give away a few tips about swimming and I talk about what?s going on with?Effortless Swimming?which is my business and I let people know about any new products or clinics or it?s just basic news about what?s happening in the business and in October the business had its biggest month by 45% largely because of this Own the Racecourse system. So I?ve been doing that for the last 3 ? 4 months and the email list has grown tremendously. I?m not sure exactly how much but it?s up to 4 ? 5,000 subscribers, the Facebook fan page is up from 4,000 about 2 months ago to about 15,000 and I?m getting a lot of people email me asking for coaching services and getting a lot more sales and that sort of thing and it?s all by building my personal swimming coaching brand through these videos and through these weekly videos that I?m putting out.

James:??????????????????Are you contacting your customers more than you used to contact them?

Brenton:????????????? Earlier this year I don?t think I sent out an email for 3 or 4 months. Because I didn?t want to bother my customers or bother the people on my email list. But in hindsight that probably wasn?t the best move and I?ve been sending out an email ever week or every couple of days depending on what list they?re subscribed to. But the amount of replies I get to my emails has increased because people are thanking me for the videos, they?re asking me questions about their technique and about the products. I haven?t had 1 person say to me that you?re emailing me too much. They?ve all thanked me and told me that they?re looking forward to these videos coming out each week. It?s counter intuitive to what I thought would be the case where people were sick of hearing from me but because I?m not sort of pushing things on people, I?m just giving them some helpful tips that they can implement for the week. It?s really been a different result to what I was expecting.

James:??????????????????Right, so if I?m reading between the lines here, you have overcome your trepidation to email your customers and you no longer fear that they?re going to leave your list because you can feel good about giving them more and more value. Like the more often you contact them, the more good stuff you?re teaching them that?s going to help them with their swimming.

Brenton:????????????? Yeah that?s the thing, because I was used to all these internet marketers who every week or every day it?s a different offer for a different product. And that?s not the type of business I want to be running. I was sort of thinking, well that?s the only way that you can email customers every day but turn that around. Give them something that they can use, not something that they should buy. Just give them free tips, free news and they?ll appreciate it.

James:??????????????????Well word on the street is that some of these internet marketers have been adopting the?Own the Racecourse strategy?in the last few months. So it should be interesting to see these patterns crop up. So just for a listener who might not be familiar with an Own the Racecourse strategy, could you just step us through like your typical weekly schedule. Like what do you actually do once a week with your blog or your news outlet? Like what are the steps for them?

Brenton:????????????? If I was to do nothing but the Own the Racecourse model which is every Monday, I will get out my camera, I?ll take it out to the kitchen and I?ll plug in my microphone, I?ll grab the whiteboard, I write down 4, 5 or 6 points that I want to talk about and then I hit record, I?ll go through those couple of points, I?ll stop the recording, take out the SD card, put it in my computer and edit the video and then upload it to YouTube. Then I?ll send that off to my assistant over in the Philippines, Gwen. Hello Gwen out there, I?ll send her this recording. What she?ll do is she?ll get it transcribed, she?ll put together bullet points, and then she?ll upload it to the blog and then she?ll send that to me and then I?ll send that out to my email list. I?ll post it to Facebook, to Twitter, to Google+. If I did nothing but that for the week, I?d still get 80-90% of the results for the week I?d say just from doing that 1 video on a Monday. It really is the 10% work and 90% results.

James:??????????????????I?m glad you said that because some people say to me, ?Gosh that sounds like a lot of work but it makes so much sense.? Then I ask them, ?What other marketing they do to drive their business and really where I?ve got it to and where it sounds like you?ve got it to is if you do nothing other than pop out a video here and there, that that will actually continue to drive your business and not just drive it but grow your business bigger and it?s probably going to have a compound effect I imagine if the same thing that?s happened to me is you?ll build your audience and you start getting more comments and people find you in the different channels as well. You?re tapping into a few different places. Sounds like Facebook?s really kicking and your YouTube channel I imagine would get embedded and shared occasionally by other people.

Brenton:????????????? Yeah that was the thing. I got off the phone to someone who I did a podcast with today and he said to me, ?How on earth have you got this video onto so many different websites?? because he must have come across it on some triathlon or swimming websites. And all that is is other people are embedding the content onto their own websites. Because it?s good content, they want to share it and they want to I guess add things to their blog. So it?s not rocket science. But just doing the day in and day out things and doing this video every week, it?s really having a compound effect on sales, on the email list, on building authority and getting the (inaudible 09:09). It?s not hard. I wouldn?t call it work either. I enjoy making the videos. Every day I?m thinking of new things to talk about in the video and I?m kind of scratching to, itching to get out there in front of the camera to get this stuff in front of the people who watch the videos because I know it?s good stuff.

James:??????????????????What sort of challenges have you had in setting up this new system apart from your own fear that people might say, ?Hey look, you?re sending me too many emails but have you had any technical challenges or major fears or obstacles to overcome?

Brenton:????????????? Nothing too major. I mean, I was pretty rubbish in front of the camera to start with. I was pretty serious. I got told by someone that I looked like I was in front of a firing squad. So maybe smile a bit more. Yeah, that was good advice. I tried to smile more since then. But it?s gotten a lot easier and initially when I started my business, you see the internet marketing business where it?s a guy sitting behind his computer making all this money and no one knows who he is. So he?s this underground type of guy. That?s sort of what I wanted to set up, in the beginning that?s what I thought was the way to go because I didn?t want to? I was afraid of being known out there. I?ve sort of changed that around and now I?m really putting my face out there and getting my name out there and people can relate that way. They?d rather deal with a person than a business especially in the swimming triathlon market. I had those sort of issues at the start. There are always technical issues like you might forget to turn the microphone, the SD card might be full so you need to record the video again, but just get it done and these technical issues become less and less as you get more experienced with it. But it?s nothing major. If the video quality is not that great at the start, I would just put out some not great quality videos, the content?s been good but the quality?s not great, but people would rather get the content than not receive it I think. It might look ugly but it does the job.

James:??????????????????Yeah, I?ve definitely put out my half-done videos before but I think people forgive you when you?re starting out on this and besides that, you don?t have as big an audience when you start but certainly as the audience grows, you can refine your technique.

????????????????????????????????You?ve been really generous sharing your story there, Brenton. I wanted to ask you, can you give the listeners some action steps. What can they take away from this? If they?ve got a website or they have a business, it may not be in the internet marketing space, maybe it?s a normal sort of business or they have customers who are in a traditional sort of business, what are the things that they should focus on first?

Brenton:????????????? If I looked at my business and I had to keep only a handful of things; it would be my website, so?EffortlessSwimming.com?which is the main website where I add these videos to each week. It would be my email auto responder. I use Office Autopilot but it doesn?t matter too much what system you?re using as long as you?ve got somewhere where you can collect people?s email addresses and keep in contact with them. It would be a Facebook fan page, it would be a camera, and a YouTube account. If I had just those things, I think I could do pretty well with the business. So if someone?s looking to increase their business or increase their revenue, get their name out there, build more authority in the market. Then just start recording a video once a week. Just write down a couple of points on a whiteboard, film yourself, put it out there, put it on your website, put it under Facebook and just start building this following because if you?ve got something to say, and you know what your market is looking for then they want to hear this kind of stuff. I was going on Facebook today and I saw a friend of mine who?s in financial planning. She put out an article that was on one of the websites that she writes for and I was just browsing on Facebook and I looked at this thing and I thought this is great so I sort of saved it to read for later because people want to consume content that they?re interested in. Put your fears aside, if you don?t want to get on camera and just do it. It might be painful at the start but it?s been so worth it for me and my business.

James:??????????????????Awesome. Now if people want to see what you?ve got going there and check out the swimming videos, learn how to swim better and eat better and get that sportsman brain, where can they go and have a look at your stuff?

Brenton:????????????? When you?ve got the million dollar house and the pool at the backyard from your internet marketing then head to?EffortlessSwimming.com?and that?s where I put all my content. You can check out what I?m doing in terms of the marketing side of things. If you?re a swimmer or triathlete then get in touch and we?ll improve your swimming so you?re not left behind on the swimming leg of your triathlons.

James:??????????????????Fantastic. Now I?ve just got another question. Actually I hadn?t planned this but what would you say to someone thinking about coming on board with SilverCircle?

Brenton:????????????? As you know I?ve been part of SilverCircle for, well I?m kind of thinking how long now, but it?s been over 12 months and what I get out of it is the accountability is great because every week we say what we?re going to do and then we reference that the next week to actually see what we?ve been through and then just your experience has sort of guided my business in the right direction and it?s kind of pushed me to do more than I would just by myself. For example running freestyle clinics and workshops. The very first one I ran I was so nervous about having 20-30 people in a room where I?m talking about swimming. But you just kind of encouraged me to go ahead with it and that was awesome. It got me over my fear of talking in front of 20-30 people about swimming and then also the other business owners in there and the forum. There are a lot of different businesses and a lot of experience in there. And you can throw around ideas and people will get back to you with what they know and what they?ve been through. It?s been responsible for driving my business tremendously and there?s no way I?m leaving it any time soon.

James:??????????????????Nice, well thanks Brenton I hope people go and check out your swimming videos. This is definitely the sportiest episode I?ve ever recorded. I can see a racing bicycle in the background there and the pool over here. Hopefully you?ve inspired some athletic? and it?s Christmas in Australia as well, for our overseas listeners. There?s the surf board for all the people in the snow right now. Thanks mate. Have a great week. I?ll catch up with you on the next call.

Brenton:????????????? Great! Thanks James.

James:??????????????????See ya!

FDA Closer To Approving Biotech Salmon

An anonymous reader writes with a story about the possibility of genetically engineered salmon showing up on your table. "A controversial genetically engineered salmon has moved a step closer to the consumer's dining table after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday the fish didn't appear likely to pose a threat to the environment or to humans who eat it. AquAdvantage salmon eggs would produce fish with the potential to grow to market size in half the time of conventional salmon. If it gets a final go-ahead, it would be the first food from a transgenic animal - one whose genome has been altered - to be approved by the FDA."

Common Dog Medicines that Can Improve your Pups Quality of Life ...

478469558 ea3f386ca1 z Common Dog Medicines that Can Improve your Pups Quality of Life

Any dog owner will tell you that modern medicine plays a huge role in the quality of your pup?s life. This is especially true with senior pets who often become afflicted with ailments common in old age. From preventative remedies for heartworm to lifesaving ones for diabetes and heart disease, there are many common medicines that are essential to your pet leading a long, happy life.

One of the most common preventative medications for dogs and cats is heartworm medicine such as Advantage. This combination of imidacloprid and moxidectin is a topical solution applied monthly to the area between your pet?s shoulder blades. This insecticidal agent not only treats and prevents heartworm disease but also kills fleas, intestinal parasites and ear mites. Advantage can be administered to dogs older than 7 weeks of age and cats older than 8 weeks.

Another common ailment for older dogs is osteoarthritis. Stiffness in the joints can limit your pet?s mobility, making it difficult to climb stairs or even walk. While osteoarthritis is not curable, at least there are medications available to ease chronic pain and inflammation so your pup can be more comfortable in his daily activities. One such medication is Deramaxx (deracoxib). This chewable, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is used both for arthritis and to relieve pain associated with orthopedic surgery. Deramaxx is usually well tolerated with few side effects but, as with any medication, be sure to keep aware of any changes in your pet?s behavior, appetite or bathroom habits.

As with arthritis, another ?human? illness that also affects our pets is diabetes. Pets who are overweight, consume a diet high in table food and get too little exercise are prone to developing this disease as they get older. With diabetes, the pancreas either does not produce enough insulin or the insulin it does produce is not effective in controlling blood sugar. Like humans, dogs and cats with diabetes often need injectable insulin such as Humulin N Insulin to regulate blood sugar. This medication controls hyperglycemia in dogs and diabetes mellitus in cats by lowering blood sugar. Dosage is dependent on the size and breed of your pet and should be administered after a meal according to your veterinarian?s instructions. Often, getting the right dosage of insulin to alleviate the symptoms of diabetes is a matter of trail and error. Pets should be closely watched with regard to water consumption, urination, weight gain or loss and lethargy. If your pet shows these symptoms, the insulin dose will likely
need to be adjusted.

Diseases of the heart, lungs and kidneys are also, unfortunately, quite common among older pets. Dogs and cats afflicted with congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, kidney and liver diseases often suffer from excessive body fluids which make it difficult for them to breathe and function normally. Often, veterinarians will prescribe a diuretic such as Furosemide to help remove excess fluids, treat high blood pressure and regulate electrolyte levels. Water pills such as Furosemide work by making your pet thirstier. This results in more frequent urination, which in turn, eliminates fluids. Dosage depends on the type and breed of your pet and should be administered according to your veterinarian?s prescription. Furosemide is available as both a pill and a liquid.

Asthma is yet another common medical problem for pets that can greatly affect their quality of life. When simple pleasures like playing fetch or chasing a string toy lead to wheezing and gasping for air, pet owners must find a medicine to alleviate that. But while it may seem odd, prescription inhalers such as the Advair HFA inhaler are also made for cats and dogs. The Advair HFA combines fluticasone propionate, the same inhaled corticosteroid medicine found in Flovent, with a long-acting medicine found in Servent. Together, these medicines work to prevent airway constriction and inflammation, thereby controlling symptoms such as wheezing. There are even specially made delivery chambers to administer the medicine such as the AeroKat and AeroDawg aerosol chambers.

As is evident by the development of asthma inhalers that are specially made for dogs and cats, veterinary medicine has come a long way in treating pets. With this in mind, the availability of antidepressants to control unwanted behavior should come as no surprise. Fluoxetine is one such medication prescribed to treat issues like separation anxiety, inappropriate urination, aggression and obsessive compulsive behaviors. This selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant comes in tablets, chewable tablets, capsules and liquid form and is often prescribed for both dogs and cats along with active behavior modification exercises. Dosage is usually once per day for several weeks, but your veterinarian may adjust this based on the animal?s breed and size. Side effects include lethargy, loss of appetite and nausea, so pet owners should pay attention to any such changes in Fido?s demeanor.

As most pet owners will tell you, your animals are more than just possessions; they are full-fledged family members who are doted on with fancy beds, treats, toys and even clothes. When they get sick, most people will do whatever it takes to fix whatever ails their four legged friends. Thanks to modern veterinary science, many of the medications used to treat the human equivalent of the diseases are now available for animals as well. These common medicines are lifesavers that go a long way in improving your pup?s quality of life, ensuring your best friend will be at your side for many years to come.

Kerry a familiar face on the world stage

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Sen. John Kerry, President Barack Obama's pick for secretary of state, is a familiar face to the world leaders vital to American interests.

The son of a diplomat and Obama's unofficial envoy, Kerry spent hours walking around the palace in Kabul persuading Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai to agree to a runoff election in fall 2009. The relationship will be crucial in the coming months as the administration draws down U.S. forces after more than a decade of war.

In Pakistan, Kerry helped quell the anger after the U.S. incursion into the country to kill Osama bin Laden in May 2011. The uneasy ties between Washington and Islamabad will be a priority for Kerry at the State Department.

"He knows most of the world leaders," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. "So when he goes into a country he will be a known quantity."

The five-term Massachusetts senator has spent his entire congressional career on the Foreign Relations Committee, the last six as chairman. He has traveled extensively both as intrepid lawmaker and administration emissary.

Fulfilling a Kerry dream, Obama on Friday tapped the 69-year-old lawmaker, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, to replace Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for the top job at Foggy Bottom.

"I think it's fair to say that few individuals know as many presidents and prime ministers, or grasp our foreign policies as firmly as John Kerry," Obama said in making the announcement. "And this makes him a perfect choice to guide American diplomacy in the years ahead."

Kerry is expected to sail to confirmation, with both Republicans and Democrats praising the nomination. His friend, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., jokingly referred to him as "Mr. Secretary" earlier this month, a remarkable turn as just eight years ago Republicans ridiculed Kerry as a wind-surfing, elitist flip-flopper in his bid for the White House.

While Kerry has tamped down diplomatic fires for Obama, he has stepped ahead of the administration on a handful of crises. He joined McCain as an early proponent of a more aggressive policy toward Libya, pushing for using military forces to impose a "no-fly zone" over Libya as Moammar Gadhafi's forces killed rebels and citizens.

He was one of the early voices calling for Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down as the revolution roiled the nation last year.

That independent voice may be tempered once he takes over as the administration's top diplomat.

"He's going to find what it's like to be part of an administration," said Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C. "John's going to adapt to this well. I think he spent a lot of his time grooming to be a good secretary of state. ... I don't see any downside to this nomination."

During his tenure, Kerry has pushed for reducing the number of nuclear weapons, shepherding a U.S.-Russia treaty through the Senate in December 2010, and has cast climate change as a national security threat, joining forces with Republicans on legislation that faced too many obstacles to win congressional passage.

He has led delegations to Syria and met a few times with President Bashar Assad, now a pariah in U.S. eyes after months of civil war and bloodshed as the government looks to put down a people's rebellion. Figuring out an end-game for the Middle East country would demand all of Kerry's skills.

The selection of Kerry closes a political circle with Obama. In 2004, it was White House hopeful Kerry who asked a largely unknown Illinois state senator to deliver the keynote address at the Democratic convention in Boston, handing the national stage to Obama. Kerry lost that election to President George W. Bush. Four years later, Obama was the White House hopeful who succeeded where Kerry had failed.

Throughout this past election year, Kerry skewered Obama's Republican rival, Mitt Romney, at nearly every opportunity and was a vocal booster for the president's re-election. Kerry memorably told delegates at the Democratic National Convention in August: "Ask Osama bin Laden if he's better off now than he was four years ago."

Kerry and McCain, defeated presidential candidates who returned to the Senate, have joined forces repeatedly during the past few decades. In July 1995, the two decorated Vietnam War veterans provided political cover to President Bill Clinton when he normalized U.S. relations with Vietnam. Clinton had been dogged by questions about his lack of military service.

Kerry, the Yale graduate who enlisted in the Navy, was an appealing presidential nominee in 2004 for his Vietnam War service. Three years after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, national security credentials were critical against Bush.

But Kerry was pounded by the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, a group that made unsubstantiated claims challenging Kerry's war record of a Silver Star, a Bronze Star for combat valor and three Purple Hearts. His candidacy also was dogged by his anti-war stance in April 1971 when he testified before the committee he would later chair and famously asked, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"

Kerry's move to the State Department will spark yet another special election in Massachusetts ? the third Senate contest since a 2010 special election following the death of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in 2009.

Republican Sen. Scott Brown, who won the 2010 special election but lost last month to Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren, is seen as a front-runner on the GOP side if he chooses to run again.

Possible Democratic candidates include Reps. Michael Capuano, Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch, and Ted Kennedy Jr., son of the late senator. Gov. Deval Patrick must name an interim senator to serve until the special election. Former Gov. Michael Dukakis and Victoria Kennedy, Edward M. Kennedy's widow, have been suggested as possible interim senators although Patrick hasn't publicly confirmed any names.

Kerry was in Pakistan last year in the midst of a diplomatic crisis after Raymond Davis, a CIA-contracted American spy, was accused of killing two Pakistanis.

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, traveled to Pakistan around that time and recalled Kerry's influence.

"I arrived in Islamabad, I think, five days after Ray Davis had been taken into a jail in the Punjab and was at very real risk of being hauled out of the jail and lynched," Coons said. "Sen. Kerry was about to show up and negotiate on behalf of the administration. And it was clear that both the diplomats and the military folks we met with viewed him as a real man of credibility and experience who was likely to contribute meaningfully to those negotiations."

Davis pleaded self-defense. After weeks of wrangling between the U.S. and Pakistan, he was released in exchange for "blood money" paid to the dead men's relatives.

Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who likely will take over the chairmanship of the Foreign Relations Committee, said the high-level relationships that Kerry "built with world leaders will allow him to step seamlessly into the position and to ensure that there is no decline in U.S. leadership on important global issues during a transition."

Pinnacle to buy Ameristar Casinos for about $869M

(AP) ? In a deal that would more than double its size, Pinnacle Entertainment said Friday that it will buy rival Ameristar Casinos for about $869 million, plus take on $1.9 billion of its debt.

Pinnacle owns seven U.S. casinos and a racetrack, and is developing another gaming property. Ameristar has eight casinos in the United States. The company said buying Ameristar could help it become a bigger player in the gaming industry, while trimming some costs.

U.S. casinos have struggled to recover from the recession as consumers watch spending. Larger U.S. casino companies have increasingly relied on their properties in Asia for profits.

If the deal is approved by shareholders and regulators, Pinnacle will pay $26.50 for each share of Ameristar Casinos Inc. That's a 20 percent premium over the company's Thursday closing stock price of $22.07. It's also gaining $116 million of the company's cash.

Ameristar shares jumped 17 percent to $25.75 on the news, while Pinnacle shares rose 3 percent to $13.80.

The deal, which is expected to close by the end of the third quarter, has been approved by the boards of both Las Vegas operators. Pinnacle said it has received a financing commitment.

Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. said the acquisition would save it at least $40 million a year and boost earnings.

Pinnacle has casinos in Louisiana, Missouri and Indiana. It's developing another property in Ohio, and also has a racetrack in the state. Ameristar's holdings include casinos in Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Mississippi, Indiana and Nevada. If the two companies had already been combined into one, it would have generated $2.4 billion in revenue in the 12 months through September, Pinnacle said.

Aldworth Samson seeking victory in BAGS Track Championship Final Standard Dogs Div B

Aldworth Samson will be seeking a strong run in the BAGS Track Championship Final Standard Dogs Div B at Perry Barr in Ireland on Sunday, December 23, 2012. He does not have a lot of experience, but has been performing really well with consistency for his team, which will make him a strong contender for victory tomorrow.

The talented greyhound has been working really hard with his team in order to improve his overall skills. This has helped him achieve some brilliant results since making his debut, but things will be slightly tougher for him in a Grade IR competition.

His rivals will come out hard at him and will cause a lot of problems for him in order to bag a cash prize of ?500 in the end. They will be looking forward to aggressive in the opening phases of the race, as the overall distance to cover is just 480 metres.

Although, the race is not a lengthy one, yet it will not be a clever idea to run out of gas after the first hundred metres. The one who saves some energy for the final moments will definitely be in a position to claim the top spot.

All contestants are young and full of energy, so the spectators at Perry Barr will be expecting a lot of entertainment. They will have to wait for quite some time though, as the action is going to kick off at 15:13 GMT tomorrow.

Guinness Wild, who is the youngest of all contestants, will definitely attract a lot of bets from the punters, as his performances have been quite impressive. Moreover, he has got a great chance of being aggressive from the start, as he has been slotted in trap number six.

The S. Cahill?s trained dog first appeared onto the scene in October 2012 and he has been delivering decent results with consistency since then.

However, he will not find it easy to weather the storm from Aldworth Samson, who is carrying the winning momentum right now.

The J. Wright?s trained hound took part in a T2 event at Perry Barr recently and should be comfortable on this racecourse. He is going to start the race from trap number four, but that will not be a big concern for him.

What is the difference between a CD and a regular savings account ...

A savings account is a place to park your money, earn a little interest, yet have it instantly accessible.

If instead you put it in a CD, you earn a little more interest on it, but you must leave it in for the specified term (6 months or 1 year, or whatever you agree to ? rates vary by length of time, and change all the time, so a rate offered by a bank today may not be valid tomorrow.)

I?ve seen newspaper ads that are full of fine print, promising great rates in a big font, but the fine print reveals that they make you ?use? their debit card, bill pay services, etc. to get their ?great? rate. Not worth it, imho. It?s my money, and I?m not going to pay anyone for the privilege of lending it to a bank. There are lots of banks out there. Keep looking.

CDs are a safe investment, if the bank is a member of the FDIC. You might ?lose? value due to inflation, but you will not lose your money like investing in worthless stocks, and so on. If your bank gets bought out by another bank, your money is still safe.

Email Marketing: 10 Reasons Why You Need It | Chicago Internet ...

Email Marketing - Blue Rise Media

With all of the different ways to market a product, service or business online, many people forget about traditional email marketing. This form of marketing is still incredibly effective and it makes a nice companion for any other advertising method, as well.

1. ?Simple

Setting up an email marketing campaign is incredibly easy as long as business owners know where to find the right tools. Reputable and effective bulk email tools can help business owners get their messages to their target audiences quickly and legally.

2. ?Cost Effective

Email marketing is an affordable form of marketing and many of the tools available online are free. Of course, the best features come with paid versions of the software. Business owners can choose to download the software to their computers or use a web-based program.

3. ?Personalized

Email communication allows business owners to greet each individual prospect, client or customer by name. This simple tactic helps businesses to form a tighter bond with their customers by making them feel appreciated and welcomed.

4. ?Track the Results

Email marketing is one of the only Internet marketing strategies that feature results that can be tracked. Business owners will be able to determine their click-through rates, conversion rates and the methods by which consumers reached their websites at-a-glance.

Email Marketing - Blue Rise Media

5. ?Worldwide Reach

Television, radio and print ads have a limited scope, but email marketing lists can have a global reach. There is no cost to send an email all the way around the world and they always reach their destinations unharmed. Some bulk email programs even allow for automatic translation based upon the recipient?s location.

6. ?Consumers can Opt-In or Opt-Out

Unlike mailers and media-based commercials, consumers can decide on their own whether or not they want to accept emails from a particular business. This allows business owners to determine exactly who is?and who is not?interested in the products and services they provide.

7. ?Target Specific Demographics

Business owners who use email marketing have access to lists of individuals and their email addresses, ages, locations, interests and more. By using this information, it is possible to send emails only to people in certain locations or who fit within a certain age group.

8. ?24-Hour Marketing

Due to the hectic lives that most consumers lead these days, they are often faced with serious time shortages. As a result, they need information that is available on their own time frames. Email marketing ensures that customers can learn more about products and services, and perhaps even place orders, when it is convenient for them to do so.

9. ?Interactivity

Television ads and other forms of advertisement leave little to the imagination. Email advertisements, on the other hand, are completely interactive. Consumers can click different links within the content to access different information on websites.

10. Fast Response

It is much quicker and convenient for consumers to respond to an email when compared to the time it takes for consumers to respond to direct mail. Email responses can be expected in two or three days; direct mail responses often take two to three weeks.

Email marketing campaigns are some of the most effective ways to promote a business online. They are easy, affordable and completely personalized for any particular industry or niche.

Jerusalem is best known for its multitude of holy sites, and its most famous shrines can be visited for free. But beyond its earthly past, Jerusalem has an impossible beauty with broad appeal. For residents and tourists, secular and religious souls, city slickers or nature lovers, there is always an unexplored alleyway, street corner or vista that will show you the city as you?ve never seen it before. (AP) ? Weeks ahead of Israeli elections, Palestinian officials are already plotting a series of tough steps against Israel to be taken if, as polls predict, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is re-elected and peace efforts remain stalled.

Emboldened by their newly upgraded status at the United Nations, the Palestinians are talking of filing war crimes charges against Israel, staging mass demonstrations in the West Bank, encouraging the international community to impose sanctions, and ending the security cooperation that has helped preserve quiet in recent years.

These plans, combined with growing international impatience with Israeli settlement construction on occupied land, could spell trouble and international isolation for the Israeli leader.

In a series of interviews with The Associated Press, a number of Palestinian officials all voiced a similar theme: Following the U.N. General Assembly's recognition of "Palestine" as a nonmember observer state in November, the status quo cannot continue.

"2013 will see a new Palestinian political track. There will be new rules in our relationship with Israel and the world," said Hussam Zumlot, an aide to President Mahmoud Abbas.

Israeli-Palestinian peace talks broke down shortly before Netanyahu's election in early 2009 and have remained frozen throughout his term, mostly due to the dispute over Israel's construction of settlements in east Jerusalem and the West Bank. The Palestinians claim the areas, along with the Gaza Strip, for a future state. Israel captured the areas in the 1967 Mideast war.

The Palestinians have demanded that Israel halt settlement construction before negotiations can resume, saying the continued building is a show of bad faith. Netanyahu says talks should resume without preconditions, and notes that a 10-month partial freeze on construction he imposed two years ago failed to bring about substantive negotiations.

Frustrated with the impasse, the Palestinians turned to the United Nations for recognition of an independent state in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza. Israel, which withdrew from Gaza in 2005, rejects a return to its 1967 lines.

Although the U.N. vote did not change the situation on the ground, it had deep implications. Opposed by just nine countries, it amounted to a strong international endorsement of the Palestinian position on future borders. It also cleared the way for them to join international agencies to press their grievances against Israel.

Netanyahu has accused the Palestinians of bypassing direct negotiations.

"One would hope we will in fact see in 2013 the re-emergence of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiating process," said Netanyahu's spokesman, Mark Regev. "There is no substitute for direct talks. You're not going to make peace in resolutions at the United Nations or other international forums."

At the heart of the deadlock are the huge gaps between the two sides' conditions. Netanyahu has embraced the idea of establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Without action soon, the thinking goes, Israel will find itself in permanent control of millions of disenfranchised Palestinians, threatening its status as a democracy with a Jewish majority. But Netanyahu has added so many caveats, including a refusal to turn Jerusalem into a shared capital and demands to retain significant parts of the West Bank, that the Palestinians believe negotiations would be futile.

Palestinian officials say they are hopeful that a formula for restarting talks can be found after Israel's election on Jan. 22, perhaps through a new initiative from President Barack Obama.

The Palestinians have begun to speak of a trial, six-month negotiating period. Azzam al-Ahmed, a top aide to Abbas, said Arab diplomats will present the plan in Western capitals, Russia and China next month. But with the Palestinians insistent on a settlement freeze, and opinion polls forecasting a new hardline Israeli coalition headed by Netanyahu, expectations are low.

The Palestinian officials said they will not rush toward any punitive measure, but they are determined not to stand pat.

"We have to prepare ourselves for a long and tough battle," added Yasser Abed Rabbo, secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the Palestinians' top decision making body. "We will use all the political tools available."

Among the options being considered is halting cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian security forces in the West Bank. The cooperation is widely seen as a key element in preserving the calm in the West Bank in recent years, in sharp contrast to the heavy fighting a decade ago.

"There will be no security cooperation as long as there is no political horizon," said Mohammed Ishtayeh, a Palestinian Cabinet minister.

The Palestinians also talk of increasing "popular struggle," the term they use for demonstrations against Israeli soldiers. Such face-to-face confrontations frequently turn tense, with protesters throwing stones and troops firing tear gas and water cannons, and run the risk of growing more violent.

Perhaps most troubling to Israel, the Palestinians also want to use their upgraded status on the world stage to push for international action against Israel.

Officials say they will move to join the International Criminal Court, where they hope to pursue war crimes charges against Israel for its settlement activities. Although the road to taking legal action in the ICC appears to be long and complicated, it nonetheless has made Israeli officials jittery.

"We are going to pursue this policy to reach a point of having the international community impose sanctions on Israel," said Qais Abdelkareem, another PLO official.

This Palestinian agenda, while ambitious, is likely to encounter stiff resistance from both Israel and its international allies. Israel has a number of tools at its disposal, including possible military or economic pressure on the Palestinians. Israel's allies in the West, particularly the U.S., will also likely shield it from any attempt to impose broad international sanctions, at least in the near term.

But there are signs that international patience with Israel is wearing thin. There was strikingly sharp anger over the Israeli plan to build thousands of new settler homes in response to the Palestinian bid at the U.N.

The U.S., using especially harsh language, accused Israel of engaging in a "pattern of provocative action." All the members of the U.N. Security Council except the U.S. denounced the Israeli settlement plans at a special meeting this week.

The European Union has also condemned the planned construction. The 27-member bloc issued a statement earlier this month raising the possibility of requiring Israel to label any exports that originate in the settlements. It also noted that future cooperation agreements would not include territories captured in 1967, including east Jerusalem, which Israel claims as an integral part of its capital. There are fears that individual European states might impose sanctions of their own.

An Israeli official said the extent of the international uproar had caught officials off guard. "Something has changed," he said. "Clearly a line has been crossed." He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was discussing closed diplomatic meetings.

Yossi Beilin, a former deputy foreign minister and peace negotiator, said there is "no way" the status quo can continue and that Netanyahu "understands that this situation where the U.S. is the only one to support Israel cannot go on forever." He said Netanyahu, after pandering to hard-liners during the election campaign, will likely try to bring in a centrist party into his coalition after the vote to give the government an image of moderation.

"Reality might impose itself in such a way that we will find him doing things, like maybe an interim agreement with the Palestinians or something that seems now unexpected," Beilin said. "He will make small steps to appease adversaries. And to Netanyahu, the whole world is an adversary."

2012: AN AUTOMOTIVE JOURNEY - Speedhunters

Photographer. I?ve always felt a little uncomfortable around the term. It?s true a lot of my job involves framing shots and pressing that shutter button, but cars are the sole reason I took an interest in photography in the first place. From the moment I first picked up an SLR camera I saw it not as a tool for artistic expression, but as a way to share my interest in automobiles with others. My skill as a shooter has certainly evolved over the years, but the goal has always remained me the same ? to express my love of cars.

So with that in mind, for the first of my 2012 year in review stories, rather than just sharing what I think are my best photos, I thought I?d recap my overall automotive journey in 2012. The photos? My way of sharing it. Whether I?m considered a photographer or just a strange car-loving fellow with a camera, let?s take a look back.

Just a few weeks after 2012 began I found myself on a jet heading for Japan. At this point it had been close to three years since I?d been back, so I was excited to say the least. As soon as I set foot back in the country, my passion for Japan and it?s car culture was reignited in an instant.

During the roughly month long period that I was there, I was able to get back in touch with everything that makes Japan?s car culture so amazing. I?m talking about the things that made me fall in love with the country in the first place. From browsing vintage car parts in Odaiba?

?to catching up on the hot rod and custom scene at the Razzle Dazzle in Yokohama. It was a brilliant trip.

But more importantly, it seemed that everywhere I went I?d be greeted by enthusiastic people who were not only familiar with Speedhunters, but regular followers. My Speedhunters sticker supply was diminished quickly by the privateer racers at the Tsukuba Circuit GTCC event?

?and by the grassroots drift crowd when I headed up to Nikko Circuit to catch some of Japan?s signature sideways action. All along the way I made new friends who I?ve stayed in touch with and hope to see during my next visit.

Another big highlight of my 2012 Japan trip was my visit to Osaka. Despite having lived in Japan in the past, this would be first real exposure to Kansai?s automotive scene.

And what better place to get a taste of that Kansai style than at Osaka Auto Messe? Not only was I overwhelmed by the homegrown show cars that were on display?

?but I had forgotten about the strange sights that accompany events like Auto Messe or Tokyo Auto Salon. I?m talking about the sight of dozens of dudes crawling on top of each other trying to get a shot of the campaign girls. Oh Japan, you are so funny.

As it turns out, what followed Auto Messe was even more memorable for me. Thanks to some gracious hosts I was able to experience real Osaka street style at a giant late night car meet. Not only that, but I was treated as a special guest and asked to pick my favorite car as the ?Speedhunters choice? winner.

It was not an easy choice, but in the end I was won over by the signature Osaka style and chose a legit Kanjo racer ?Wonder? Civic as my pick. Needless to say, I can?t wait to see what?s in store for Japan 2013.

By the time I returned from Japan, the winter had begun to thaw and it was time to get going with the traditional event season. One of the most memorable events for me was the NHRA Museum?s Shelby Reunion, not just for the chance to see cars racing on the old Pomona road course?

?but for the fact the Carroll Shelby himself would sadly end up passing away not long after this. The man may be gone, but after attending events like this it?s clear the passion for his automobiles has never been higher.

In terms of events, other highlights for me are the Eagle Field drags with their laid back vibe and throw back to the golden years of American drag racing. There?s just something about seeing Gassers and old school front engine rail dragsters running on a dusty airstrip.

Another great experience from 2012- traveling to Santa Maria for the Cruisin? Nationals and seeing the entire town taken over by custom car fans from around the world. I?m not quite sure why, but it?s always these more ?loose? events that leave the biggest impressions on me.

2012 also marked by first ever trip to Bonneville for Speed Week. As anyone who has been will tell you, it?s just one of those things that every auto enthusiast should experience in their lifetime. Even without the speed contest, the other-worldly environment alone is enough to warrant a trip.

The fact that there is a historic and massive speed trial event happening is just a bonus?

But what?s even better about Bonneville is the sense of spirit and friendliness of the people who gather there from all over the world. When you go to the salt, you feel like you are part of something bigger.

It?s impossible to talk about the year?s big events without mentioning the SEMA Show. In terms of schedule, there is nothing more hectic than that week in Las Vegas.

It?s one of those events where there?s so much going on that you can hardly process what you?ve seen before it?s time to move on to the next booth, meeting, party, or event post. Pure madness.

Then on the complete opposite end of the spectrum there are weekly meets like Cars & Coffee that can be every bit as enjoyable with an equally impressive mix of cars. Yes, the life of a Speedhunter can be strange.

While I didn?t spend a whole lot of time doing car feature shoots in 2012, the ones I did do were quite memorable. Getting an up close look at these cars is great, but what?s even better is meeting the owners and learning the stories behind these machines.

While talking to the owners and builders of these cars, we get a tale that can?t be told by a spec sheet and some photos alone.

Whether the car comes from a big budget race team or a working class enthusiast, hearing these stories is absolutely one of the most enjoyable parts of the job for me.

The same thoughts can be applied to the various shops we visit during our Speedhunting exhibitions. Each one has its own fascinating story, and seeing builds in progress never gets tiring.

One of the most memorable shops I visited in 2012 is JDM Legends in Salt Lake City, Utah. After following their work online for a few years now it was great to finally get to see it all in person and chat with Eric Bizek about the state of the Japanese classic car movement.

Of course 2012 also included other events outside of the events, shops, and vehicles we covered. In my case I bought a new daily driver in July ? a 2012 Volkswagen GTI.

It?s my first VW, and so far I?m really enjoying it?s mix of practicality and fun. I?m hoping to have some fun with this thing in the coming year.

Then to wrap things up, just a few weeks go I acquired a new project car and a fairly unusual one at that. It?s a 1969 Toyota Crown Custom Wagon and it needs a hell of a lot of work, but I?m absolutely in love with it.

At this point I?m not even sure exactly what my plan is for it, but I have some strange ideas in my head. Watch this space.

Yes, 2012 was quite a year. Here?s hoping 2013 will be even better.

-Mike

(AP Photo/David Duprey, file)

(AP) ? Eastman Kodak will receive about $525 million from the sale of its digital imaging patents, money the struggling photo pioneer says will help it emerge from bankruptcy protection in the first half of next year.

The Rochester, N.Y., company filed for bankruptcy protection in January after struggling to adapt to the shift to digital photography.

Eastman Kodak Co. said Wednesday the patent sale will help it repay a substantial amount of its initial debtor-in-possession loan, and it satisfies a key condition of new financing that required the sale of the patents for at least $500 million.

In November, Kodak said it would receive loans worth $830 million in a new, cheaper financing package, replacing a $793 million deal.

Kodak has been pummeled in recent years as consumers switched to digital photography from film. It put its patents up for sale in July 2011, and analysts initially thought the portfolio could fetch between $2 billion and $3 billion because patents have become highly valuable to digital device makers who want to protect themselves from intellectual property lawsuits. But Kodak struggled to find a buyer.

Meanwhile, Kodak has been working to refocus its business on commercial and packaging printing, leaving behind its digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames businesses.

It is selling 1,100 patents to a group of 12 licensees organized by Intellectual Ventures and RPX Corp. The deal also includes an agreement to settle patent-related litigation.

Kodak spokesman Christopher Veronda said each licensee will pay a portion of the total cost and then have access to all the patents.

The licensee group includes Shutterfly Inc., a company that lets customers store, print and share photos on the Internet. Earlier this year, Kodak sold its online photo service business to Shutterfly for $23.8 million.

Kodak will retain ownership of about 9,600 patents, focused mostly on commercial imaging and printing technologies.

Rio de Janeiro's funk gains acceptance

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) ? Rio de Janeiro's rich, oceanfront promenades have their own music, made immortal in Bossa Nova tunes such as "The Girl from Ipanema." Carioca funk, on the other hand, is the soundtrack to another city ? the one that doesn't make it onto postcards. As one hit tells it, funk is "black music, music from the favelas."

Borrowing freely from Miami bass, rap, soul and other American genres, funk layers a frenetic rhythm with lyrics that describe the reality of Rio's working poor: low wages, packed buses, dead-end jobs, the everyday threat of violence.

Subgenres can glorify the lifestyle of drug dealers, much like Mexico's narco-corridos, or simply serve as a titillating escape from the workaday grind. Huge funk "bailes," or parties, go on past dawn, packed with shirtless young men or drug dealers sporting thick gold chains and semiautomatics in slums far from police control. Women in barely there spandex getups and towering platform heels dramatize sexually explicit lyrics with hard-core, full-contact antics.

For many in Rio's favelas and far-flung peripheries, funk is the only venue for their story, said Adriana Facina, a professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro who studies Rio's funk movement.

"All art is a form of communication, and funk allows the self-expression of a population that in a society like ours is oppressed and without a voice in the formal channels, the mainstream media," said Facina.

A few performers, such as M.C. Naldo and Buchecha, have broken onto major television channels, but many of the genre's performers and fans have been forced to battle in courts, streets and newspapers for respect, repeating the struggles of the pioneers of Rio's now-revered samba, the Afro-Brazilian martial art capoeira and Afro-Brazilian religions.

Funk's ability to weave other perspectives into the official narrative of Rio was clear on the November morning when police arrested the leading drug trafficker of Rocinha, a massive shantytown straddling two of Rio's wealthiest neighborhoods.

Local news channels reported the news with glee, but not everyone was celebrating trafficker Antonio Bonfim Lopes' capture that November. Soon after the arrest, YouTube hits on a video featuring MC Godo's song "I Saved My Daughter" spiked. Against photos showing the renowned trafficker smiling with Rocinha residents, the lyrics portrayed Lopes not only as a gun-wielding drug lord but as a father pressed into the illicit trade to raise money for a daughter with a serious illness.

"People judge me but they don't know my story," go the lyrics. "Society only knows how to criticize, but it's easy to talk if you weren't in my place." He goes on to say, "I'm one more citizen who didn't have a choice."

In the last five years, the genre has expanded its reach and enjoyed more social acceptance, with the help of an association of funk artists and supporters, Apafunk, and the backing of liberal legislators. Its market potential has become hard to ignore: A recent survey by the Brazilian think tank the Getulio Vargas Foundation revealed that funk disc jockeys, MCs and others generate about $720 million a month in revenue.

A 2007 law that had made it virtually impossible to hold the traditional open-air funk parties in favelas was repealed in 2009, and the musical genre was recognized as a "cultural movement." Dance face-offs between performers of "passinho," a type of breakdancing associated with Rio's funk scene, now come with corporate sponsorship.

"We're watching now the institutionalization of funk," said Julio Ludemir, a writer and cultural producer involved in the organization of passinho battles. "It's being accepted by the white elite. But it's very complicated; like with samba, you start by creating spaces for the middle class to come dance. Now, samba is no longer for the poor. It's for the middle class, tourists, people from Sao Paulo."

When police take over favelas to regain territorial control of areas long held by drug dealers, one of their first actions is to clamp down on the raucous bailes. Then police require residents apply for special permission to throw a funk party, said Ludemir. Such communities still represent a fraction of the nearly 1,000 favelas in Rio state, but the change is hard to miss.

"The baile loses its first characteristic, of being out in the open, for the whole community," Ludemir said. "The funk accepted by the police is a privatized funk; it's inside, you pay to get in, it's got a controlled schedule. It's the end of the fun for poor people."
