There?s a strange sight on the streets in one northwest Iowa town.
Dan Allen of Rolfe brought out his giant, newly-painted pink rocking horse this week. He says his grandkids gave him the idea to build it, but something else prompted its bright coat of paint?
Allen and his brother Roger made the horse a few years ago but Dan?s wife Mary has been battling breast cancer for a couple of years. That prompted the rocking horse to be moved indoors for a few weeks to get a new color of paint, in tribute to those like Mary battling breast cancer.
Dan says his wife is now cancer-free, ?She?s done well, she?s cancer free?tough gal. We didn?t realize how many people have had breast cancer just in our area?and we done this for the awareness of breast cancer.?
The pink rocking horse will be back on the road again Saturday for the Rolfe sesquicentennial parade.
The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Rolfe is about 45 minutes northwest of Fort Dodge.
